    How to Apply:

    1. Apply

      • First visit our Volunteer Area page to learn about all the areas available and choose three you are interested in.
      • Fill out the application that corresponds to your first choice of area (see box labeled Chapel Hill/Off-Site Applications). Only fill out one application, you will be able to write in additional areas for your 2nd and 3rd choices on that same application. Your 2nd and 3rd choices can be in any area listed on our opportunities page except those that state they are not accepting applications.

        • For example: Guest Services fills out Throughout Medical Center and UNC Campus application, Child Life fills out Children's Hospital application.

    2. When your application goes through, you will receive an automated confirmation email containing details about online orientation, compliance modules, background screening, and immunization requirements due dates. Check your inbox and spam/trash/junk folders for this email. If you do not receive it within minutes of submitting your application, please contact volsvcs@unchealth.unc.edu.

      • This email includes dates for additional mandatory virtual meetings and interviews. Please read through it carefully.
      • Onboarding requirements differ for UNC Health Employees, contact Volunteer Services for more details.

    3. Review the Undergraduate/graduate Volunteer Immunization and TB Testing Requirements and begin making arrangements to receive any missing vaccines and testing. Tdap after the age of 18 is a new requirement. Please do not wait until the last minute to start this process as it can take several weeks to complete.
    4. Please complete the following steps in order and send ONE email containing proof of background check results, completed compliance modules, online orientation, and physician verification form.  If you do not use the verification form, be sure that all immunizations are circled or highlighted on the documents you send.  Otherwise, they will not be accepted and will be returned to you to correct.
    5. Volunteer dress code is a short or long sleeved plain white, light blue or navy polo. Volunteers supply their own shirts.
