Educational Opportunities for Nurses
As a teaching hospital on the campus of the University of North Carolina, we are a part of a health science complex comprised of schools of nursing, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and public health. The Division of Health Affairs, the largest division of studies at UNC, has been called "the most complete constellation of education, research and service efforts in the field of health available on any university campus."
Day one starts when you accept employment with UNC Medical Center. Even before you begin employment, you will hear from the Executive Director of UNC Medical Center, the Chief Nursing Officer and your nurse manager.
UNC Medical Center conducts a comprehensive education and development program that is designed to help you grow, learn and enrich your skills. Our orientation program is competency-based and conducted by Nursing Services Divisions of Nursing Professional Development, Practice and Research and of Nursing Informatics - as well as our service-based Clinical Nurse Education Specialists and unit-based Nurse Education Clinicians. The orientation consists of didactic instruction, skills labs and a clinical preceptorship which is tailored to your needs and experience level. If you are a recent graduate or an RN entering a new specialty, you will receive educational and clinical support throughout the transition to independent practice.
The University has been a pioneer in North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHECs) and is the flagship campus for continuing education of healthcare professionals. Our Nurses benefit from these teaching/learning opportunities.
