Why UNC
I chose to pursue a Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) residency at UNC because of the many opportunities for personal and professional growth. UNC offers a wide and expansive clinical PGY1 year, which is something I wanted in my first year of a residency program. As an academic medical center, UNC emphasizes lifelong learning. It provides me with the opportunity to work alongside and learn with established pharmacists, leaders, and other healthcare providers. During the PGY2 year, you are able to work closely with highly-regarded pharmacy leaders within the health system and across the nation. The HSPAL program consistently produces quality pharmacy leaders, and its impact on health systems is wide-reaching. It provides unique administrative and leadership experiences, such as the ability to have rotational experiences at off-campus centers and hospitals, experience global health systems, and concomitantly attain a Masters Degree in Pharmacy Administration with other HSPAL residents across the nation. Throughout all of this, the support from the preceptors, program directors, and co-residents is ever-present. The supportive culture is ingrained into every aspect of the residency program and only deepens my respect for it.
