Rotation Description:
Psychosomatics psychiatry clinic occurs once weekly on Tuesday morning. It is a teaching clinic with psychiatry residents, medical students, pharmacist, and pharmacy residents or students. It is a unique population and the goals of clinic are: 1) to get better at outpatient psychiatry, 2) to appreciate the interplay of medical and psychiatric conditions, 3) to better understand psychiatric phenomenology when combined with complex medical illness, 4) to better understand the complexities of using psychiatric medications in the medically ill. The pharmacy team plays an integral role in evaluating what potential drug interactions do we need to consider between transplant (current or future) and psychotropic medications, as well as disease-state interactions (i.e. renal or hepatic-impairment, poor perfusion, etc) and how that affects meds we choose.
