Rotation Description
Outpatient Mental Health is an elective, one-month learning experience as part of the PGY-2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency Program. This rotation is designed to equip pharmacy residents with the knowledge of, and experience with various psychiatric conditions and disorders in adult patients encountered in an outpatient setting at Durham VA Healthcare System. The resident will serve as the pharmacy resource for mental health needs to assist with patient centered and comprehensive care.
The resident will primarily work within a Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) team, which consists of patients with general mental health needs and conditions, geropsychiatry patients, and patients who are severely and persistently mentally ill (SPMI). The rotation also includes optional learning experiences within a Treatment Resistant Disorders Clinic (e.g., providing care directly or through shadowing for patients receiving or being considered for treatments such as intranasal esketamine, intravenous ketamine, transcranial magnetic stimulation, electroconvulsive therapy, stellate ganglion blocks, etc.).
