Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy
Rotation Description
The Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy rotation allows residents to become an integral part of the medical team. Residents will be involved in the care of pediatric patients receiving autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants and cellular therapy, including patients enrolled in clinical trials. Residents will be exposed to various pediatric hematology/oncology conditions including, but not limited to: AML, ALL, neuroblastoma, sickle cell disease, and severe aplastic anemia. There will be a strong focus on transitions of care, with providing and coordinating care for patients before admission and at discharge. The learner will demonstrate knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacotherapy, and complications of stem cell transplant, including graft versus host disease and infections. The resident will provide education to patients, caregivers, nursing staff, and medical team. The resident will be a part of a multidisciplinary team that includes an attending, fellow, nurse practitioner, pharmacist, dietitian, medical students, pharmacy students, and bedside nurses.
