Clinical Administration, Medication Safety, and Accreditation
Rotation Description:
The Medication Safety and Accreditation rotation combines experiences in both medication safety and accreditation compliance/readiness. The resident will work closely with the Director to gain experience with various methodologies used to measure medication-use safety, learn and apply methods to promote a culture of safety, analyze complex systems and correct system flaws, and utilize effective communication methods to raise awareness of patient safety concerns. The resident will become familiar with The Joint Commission’s (TJC) and DNV accreditation standards manual. Specific attention will be applied to the CMS Conditions of Participation and understanding and interpreting the TJC Medication Management chapter.
The Clinical Administration rotation will allow the resident to gain in-depth experience with practice-based teams within UNC Health. The rotation will allow the resident to exercise leadership and practice management skills, enhance their knowledge in managing clinical practice, identify opportunities to improve the medication use process, explain staffing requirements and practice models, and understand policies and procedures that govern pharmacy practice at UNC Health. The resident will become an integral part of the leadership team for UNC Health and contribute to quality improvement and strategic planning.
