Clinical Oncology Administration
Rotation Description:
The Clinical Oncology Administration rotation is a 1-month long experience that will focus on clinical management of a hematology/oncology clinical service line within an academic medical center setting. Areas of administrative focus will include acute care clinical oncology services, ambulatory clinical oncology services, and operational services. The resident will gain an understanding of oncology service line structures, workflows, and priorities and how these align with departmental, institutional, and health system structures and priorities. This experience will focus on principles and skills of leadership, performance and quality improvement, finance, human resources, and strategic planning. There will also be a large focus on project management. The resident will engage with hematology/oncology team members and other leaders as they navigate activities that include, but are not limited to, coordination, communication and implementation of new initiatives, justification of oncology pharmacy resources, adaptation of clinical coverage models as necessary, addressing daily needs/concerns of the clinical oncology pharmacist, problem-solving pertinent oncology-related issues, partnering with key collaborators to improve patient care, drug shortage management, and retrieval and analysis of data to drive decision making.
