Rotation Title
Acute Care Medical Oncology | Ambulatory Lung/Sarcoma Oncology
Rotation Description:
The Acute Care Medical Oncology Rotation is designed to develop the resident’s clinical pharmacy skills in the management of patients with solid tumor malignancies in the inpatient setting. Emphasis is placed on the pharmacologic management of cancer, supportive care needs, and the prevention and treatment of disease- and therapy-related complications. Resident responsibilities include participating in daily interdisciplinary patient care rounds, providing patient education and counseling, facilitating transitions of care, delivering educational in-services to the healthcare team as needed, and completing patient presentations and topic discussions to support learning and professional development.
The Ambulatory Lung/Sarcoma Oncology Rotation provides residents with experience caring for patients with thoracic malignancies and sarcomas in the outpatient setting. Residents will develop skills in the management of cancer-related symptoms, including pain, nausea, and vomiting, as well as the identification and management of toxicities associated with anticancer therapies. In addition, residents will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, advanced practice providers, and precision medicine specialists to evaluate tumor-specific characteristics and molecular profiling results and develop individualized treatment plans that optimize patient outcomes.
