Rotation Title
Nephrology Medicine
Rotation Description:
The Nephrology Medicine service provides residents with the opportunity to be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team. The focus areas of this rotation include interacting with a medical team (nephrology attending, upper-level resident, interns, students, nurses, etc.), collecting and analyzing information in the medical record, and designing and implementing pharmacotherapy plans for medicine patients. The team caps at 18-20 patients and is composed of floor and stepdown status patients. All of the patients on the team have problems medically relevant to nephrology, but their primary problem could span across different sectors of medicine. This rotation provides exposure to a wide breadth of acuity and a variety of medical problems, including but not limited to kidney transplant rejection/immunosuppression, new start dialysis, complex infections (in immunocompetent and immunocompromised patients), antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) Vasculitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), acute kidney injury/chronic kidney disease, diabetes, hypertension/heart failure, and iron deficiency anemia.
