Rotation Title

Inpatient Abdominal Transplant Surgery

Rotation Description:

Residents completing the inpatient abdominal transplant rotation will gain exposure to both pediatric and adult kidney, liver, and pancreas transplantation. The resident will provide medication reconciliation, assess the appropriateness of drug therapies, develop therapeutic plans, educate patients, participate in patient care rounds, and research specific drug information questions. The rotation will also include required transplant specific written documentation within the electronic medical record on living donors and transplant recipients. The transplant team includes a pharmacist, a physician assistant, social workers, inpatient nurse coordinators, nutritionist, nephrologists, surgeons, and medical residents/students. Residents will develop skills in managing immunosuppressive agents, antimicrobials, post-surgical care and complications, rejection, and end stage organ disease states.
