Rotation Title
Inpatient Nephrology Medicine
Rotation Description:
Residents completing the inpatient nephrology medicine rotation will gain experience caring for complex patients with a variety of renal and transplant-related conditions, including kidney transplant rejection, initiation of hemodialysis, chronic kidney disease, infections in immunosuppressed kidney transplant recipients, and other pre- and post-transplant complications. Residents will perform medication reconciliation, evaluate the appropriateness and safety of pharmacotherapy, participate in interdisciplinary patient care rounds, and research and respond to drug information questions.
The nephrology medicine team consists of a pharmacist, nephrologist attending, medical residents, interns, and students, providing residents with opportunities to collaborate within an interdisciplinary care team. Throughout the rotation, residents will develop and strengthen skills in the management of complex nephrology patients, including the use of immunosuppressive agents and antimicrobials, management of transplant rejection and autoimmune disorders, and treatment of end-stage organ disease states.
