Rotation Title

Pediatric Solid Organ Transplant (Inpatient/Outpatient)

Rotation Description:

UNC Children’s Hospital offers heart, kidney, liver and lung transplants. Learners will have the opportunity to interact with patients and families in the inpatient and outpatient setting. This learning experience exposes learners to foundational knowledge of pediatric solid organ transplant, general principles of immunosuppression and infection prophylaxis, treatment of rejection, end stage organ disease states, education and discharge counseling, and opportunities for involvement in protocol development. Throughout this experience, learners will interact with a large multidisciplinary team including physicians, social workers, inpatient/outpatient nurse coordinators, dietitian, surgeons, and medical residents/students. Learner will develop skills in managing immunosuppressive agents and antimicrobials, communication, education, and clinical documentation.
