Advanced Operations – Inpatient Pharmacy Operations

Rotation Description

The Advanced Operations – Inpatient Pharmacy Operations rotation is designed in alignment with the University of North Carolina Medical Center (UNCMC) Health-System Pharmacy Administration Residency Program and the ASHP Educational Outcomes, Goals, and Objectives for PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residents.

This administration rotation is a 4-week rotation that will specifically focus on the operational management aspects of the inpatient pharmacy operations. This will allow the resident to understand the departmental, institutional, and health system structure. The resident will also gain an in-depth understanding of the operations within inpatient pharmacy. The rotation focuses on pharmacy leadership, human resources, performance improvement, strategic planning, policy development, and project management. Depending on departmental and operational initiatives, the resident may be involved with the planning and implementation of new automation systems or upgrades of existing systems. The resident will become an integral part of the operational teams and the quality and safety initiatives undertaken by the department. Furthermore, the rotation will provide the resident with an opportunity to further develop writing, speaking, organizational, time management, teamwork, and leadership skills.
