Outpatient Pediatric Pulmonary/Cystic Fibrosis
Rotation Description
The Pediatric Pulmonary/Cystic Fibrosis Outpatient Clinic is located in the UNC Children’s Hospital. The pharmacy resident will gain experience primarily in seeing cystic fibrosis patients with a wide spectrum of disease presentations and severities, but may also be asked to consult on pediatric patients with asthma, tracheostomies, interstitial lung disease, and pre- or post-lung transplantation. The resident will work closely with nursing and medical staff to provide medication reconciliation, counseling, and monitoring of polypharmacy, and drug information to staff members. Additionally, the resident will gain experience with drug access issues, including drug approval processes and specialty medications. The team consists of attending physicians, medical fellows, a pharmacist, nurse coordinators, clinic nursing staff, and several allied health professionals (dieticians, social workers, respiratory therapists, etc.).
