General Cardiology; Cardiac ICU
Rotation Description:
Residents will be exposed to patients with a variety of cardiovascular disease states, including but not limited to, acute coronary syndromes (ACS), stable coronary artery disease (CAD), heart failure, atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, pericarditis, endocarditis, pocket and device infections, valvular disease, and pulmonary embolism.
Throughout the rotation, emphasis will be placed on integrating clinical guidelines and primary literature into the care of patients with cardiovascular disease in order to optimize their medical management. Learners will expand their clinical knowledge and refine their clinical decision-making skills. The learner will participate in activities including development of safe and effective medication plans, transitions of care planning, and patient counseling.
During the general cardiology rotation, residents will care for patients on one of UNC’s stepdown/floor cardiology teaching teams. During the CICU rotation, residents will have the opportunity to care for both general cardiology and advanced heart failure patients in the ICU.
