Rotation Title

Cardiology Ambulatory Care

Rotation Description:

The University of North Carolina Heart and Vascular Clinic provides clinical care to patients with cardiovascular diseases. This clinic is staffed by a collaborative group of cardiology fellows, pharmacists, nurses, support personnel, and cardiologists specializing in heart failure, imaging, electrophysiology, and interventional cardiology.

The heart and vascular clinic rotation is an ambulatory care experience designed to develop the resident's skills in functioning as both an independent pharmacist and a pharmacist within multidisciplinary clinic environments. Emphasis will be placed on the development of pharmacist-patient and pharmacist-provider relationships as well as expanding cardiology clinical knowledge as it pertains to the outpatient setting. The resident will be exposed to anticoagulation, dyslipidemia, electrophysiology, heart failure, hypertension, diabetes management and clinical administration. Additional responsibilities include answering drug information questions for physician attendings and fellows and providing recommendations, counseling, and education to patients and their caregivers as needed. Residents are expected to actively participate in patient care, drug information queries, administrative responsibilities, and document these activities in the institution's electronic health record.
