Rotation Title
Medication Safety
Rotation Description
The Medication Safety Rotation offers learners an in-depth experience in advancing patient safety within a healthcare system. Learners will have the opportunity to investigate medication-related events, perform root cause analyses, and apply lessons learned from system defects to drive process improvements that enhance patient safety. A central focus of the rotation is building and sustaining a culture of safety. Learners will engage with frontline team members to promote open communication, encourage speaking up, and demonstrate the positive impact of collaborative safety practices. Assigned events will primarily align with the learner’s management areas; however, exposure to hospital-wide events and safety efforts will provide a broader perspective on medication safety.
In addition, this rotation emphasizes regulatory and accreditation standards, including The Joint Commission requirements. Learners will gain practical knowledge of how compliance supports safety initiatives and contributes to organizational readiness. By the end of the rotation, learners will be equipped with the skills to analyze safety events, foster a culture of accountability and transparency, and implement meaningful changes that protect patients and empower healthcare teams.
