Our 2020-21 residency recruitment will be FULLY VIRTUAL

Out of an abundance of caution, given the evolving situation around the Covid-19 pandemic, we have made the decision to move all of our recruitment for residency to virtual formats. From information sessions, to showcases, through interviews, all parts of our process will be delivered and executed virtually. We know this is a big change, and that candidates may have questions about how this will work. Please know that our team is committed to creating and delivering opportunities for interested candidates to learn about and connect with our residents, preceptors, and leaders, all in a virtual format.

Our recruitment plans will include the following:

Showcases: Our programs will be represented at both ACCP and ASHP. Information provided here will be largely general in nature. We will answer high level questions about our programs, and direct interested individuals to attend program specific Zoom/Webex sessions

-ACCP Residency & Fellowship Showcase: All UNC programs will be represented at our showcase, which will be held on Friday November 6th from 8am-4pm EST

-ASHP Residency Showcase: All UNC programs will be represented at our showcase. Time/Date TBD. Check back here for updated information

Zoom/Webex sessions: These will be the primary method we use this year to connect with interested candidates. Each recruiting program (PGY1, PGY2, 24-month programs) will host at least 2 Zoom information sessions to provide an overview of their programs and answer questions. In addition, we will be planning/scheduling a number of “nontraditional” sessions to allow candidates to interface with our residents, our preceptors, and our RPD’s. New sessions are being planned presently, and the schedule/focus of each session will be posted, along with links to attend, on this front page of our website. Please bookmark this page and visit back regularly to look for updates to the schedule.

Also, follow us on social media (@uncrxresidency on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter), where we will post all these updates and much more!

Thank you, and best of luck on a successful and safe residency recruitment season!

The UNC Medical Center Pharmacy Residency Leadership Team

From our Assistant Director:

Thank you for your interest in the UNC Medical Center Pharmacy Residency Programs! Over 50+ years, our programs have remained committed to the training of highly capable practitioners, educators, and leaders in pharmacy. In a year such as this one, we rely heavily on our experience to ensure that, amidst unprecedented challenges and opportunities, we continue to train competent and compassionate pharmacists.

There are a few aspects of our programs I would like to highlight as things I think set them apart:

  1. Focus on Education: Education and training is a core part of our mission at the UNC Medical Center Department of Pharmacy. Whether didactic, experiential, or mentorship in nature, teaching is part of what motivates every one of our 100+ pharmacy preceptors. Our partnership with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, the #1 ranked school of pharmacy in the nation, allows our residents to participate in the delivery of a rigorous and challenging PharmD curriculum, teaching in unique an innovative styles of delivery and learning from world-class faculty.
  2. Track Record of practice advancement: Clinical practitioners at UNC are consistently pushing the profession to new levels of excellence. Our clinical and research programs have been nationally recognized year after year as leaders in practice transformation that promotes positive outcomes for practitioners, learners, and patients.
  3. A commitment to our team members: We firmly believe that the best way to allow residents and clinicians to achieve is to support them in the pursuit of both professional and personal goals. We aim to create a culture that supports well-being, and one that ensures that we are doing our part to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for all. Through professional development opportunities, intentional bonding and mentoring, and aligned execution, we make it a priority to take care of our “pharmacy Tar Heel family”.

We are so proud of the 500+ residents who have passed through the halls of the UNC Medical Center in their professional journey. Our alumni are a wonderful representation of all that we have to offer. I encourage you to explore this site and our programs, and please let us know if we can answer any questions you may have. Thank you again for your interest in our programs!
