Home > Health Library > Log Roll Method for Safe Movement
If you've had surgery on your back or belly, an injury to your trunk, or pain in your back, then you know that bending and twisting can cause more pain or injury. Movements that would normally be easy and automatic may be hard or unsafe until you are healed or have less pain.
To get in and out of bed safely, you can use the log roll method.
Sitting on the side of the bed, use your arms to lower yourself onto your side. The idea is to keep your trunk straight as you lower your upper body and raise your legs.
