Childbirth and Parenting Classes
The Women's Health Information Center in Chapel Hill, NC offers a wide variety of classes to support you before and after the birth of your child.

All classes and tours require registration, even those that are free of charge. For more details and to register, please see our Class Calendar or call us at 984-974-8882.
If you need to cancel or transfer a class please call us at 984-974-8882 or send us an email, so we may offer the spot to someone else. If you do not cancel a registration at least four days before the class starts, we will only be able to refund 80% of the class fee. We are willing to make special considerations under certain circumstances though, so please get in touch if that applies to you. Please note that we cannot offer a refund more than 60 days after receiving a payment. Thank you!
Whether you are a first-time parent or need a refresher course, we offer helpful childbirth classes at the N.C. Women's Hospital and online to prepare you for what to expect before, during, and after labor.
Breastfeeding classes can help prepare you for breastfeeding, both after childbirth and if or when you return to work.
Maternity Center Tours
Schedule a tour for where you will have your baby and become familiar with the environment.
This four-week class offers a wonderful way for an expectant mom to optimize her health and comfort during pregnancy. This class can be taken at any point in pregnancy and can be repeated. $48 for 4 sessions; 40% discount with Medicaid, 20% discount for UNC employees/students.
CPR for Family and Friends
This class teaches CPR techniques for infants, children and adults and provides information on injury prevention. Take this class before your third trimester. Class does not provide certification. $50 for two people: $30 with Medicaid, $40 for UNC employees/students, $35 for individual.

The 4th Trimester: Life with a Newborn
This class will help to prepare you for life with a newborn. Topics will include developmentally appropriate responses to newborn cues and crying, soothing techniques, recognizing normal newborn states versus when to call your provider, sleep safety and SIDS risk reduction, as well as routine newborn care. $35 for two people.
Boot Camp for New Dads
Dads-to-be meet with “Veteran” dads who bring their babies to class. Topics include: changing diapers, crying babies, finances, taking care of mom and more. $30 per dad, includes book.
Choosing and Using Childcare
This class teaches strategies for finding quality childcare for infants, toddlers and school-age children. In addition, parents learn about community childcare options. $5 for two people.
Sign-Language for Budding Babies
This fun and innovative class will help you, as parents, enrich your child’s speech and language, boost his/her vocabulary, increase their self-confidence and stimulate their intelligence through the use of American Sign Language (ASL). $15 for two people.
M.O.M. (Mentoring Other Mothers) Group
Mentoring Other Mothers is a social networking group for new moms and their babies ages 0 to 7 months, as well as prenatal mothers during their 2nd & 3rd trimesters. New moms will support each other while sharing their concerns, joys, tips and experiences. Free of charge! Occurs Wednesdays from 10:30 AM -12:00 PM.
Parents Networking Group
Similar to M.O.M.’s gatherings but where all parents or support people are welcome to share and support each other. Occurs Sundays from 4:30 PM- 6:00 PM.
