At the UNC Health Center Wheelchair Seating Clinic, our Physical and Occupational Therapists specialize in evaluating and assisting patients with mobility impairments throughout the lifespan. If you require adaptive equipment or assistive technology, our team is here to provide expert seating and positioning assessments tailored to your individual needs.
We collaborate closely with local and national wheelchair and mobility equipment vendors to ensure you receive the best possible solutions. Your evaluation appointment will be scheduled alongside a vendor, allowing for a comprehensive assessment and real-time equipment recommendations.

Vendor Partnerships & Compliance
We currently partner with Stalls Medical, Numotion, National Seating & Mobility, and Health Care Equipment. All vendors must be in compliance with UNC Health policies to participate in appointments. If your preferred vendor is not yet set up with UNC, we are happy to assist in getting them approved so they can attend your appointment.
What to Expect at Your Wheelchair & Seating Evaluation
Your evaluation will include a comprehensive assessment by an occupational therapist and/or physical therapist to review your overall mobility, strength, range of motion, and posture. A representative from a wheelchair and mobility equipment company will be present to take measurements for your custom equipment.
Once the appropriate type of equipment is recommended, you will have the opportunity to trial various styles and models. The evaluation will also assess your ability to operate and use the equipment, ensuring that it maximizes your functional independence and safety.

- Powered Mobility Device Programming – Adjustments and setup to match your specific needs
