A primary care provider is a trusted source for your day-to-day health needs. When it comes to matters of your health, your primary care physician will be your main point of contact, learning about your unique needs over time. This relationship is vital to your ongoing health.
At UNC, we have an expansive network of primary care physicians ready to provide outstanding care for you and your family.
Importance of Primary Care
Establishing a relationship with a primary care physician is important for a number of reasons. First, primary care physicians are trained to provide comprehensive, continuing care, and understand and identify a wide range of symptoms and conditions. They can help answer questions while building a deep knowledge of your unique needs. They are trained in disease prevention, health maintenance, counseling, patient education, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses.
Primary care physicians also serve as a “point of entry” to the health care system. If necessary, they can provide referrals to specialists within our system and serve as a long-term advocate.
