Comments Samples submitted for TPO antibody testing are assayed with a quantitative, chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay on the Abbott Architect system.  This test detects the presence of IgG antibodies to TPO in the serum.  The test is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid disease.  Results are reported as the value obtained.  Reference Range is 0.00-5.60 IU/mL.  These antibodies may be detected in patients with other autoimmune diseases and low levels of TPO antibody may be detected in up to 20% of asymptomatic people.  Samples must arrive in the laboratory promptly as all samples must have the serum removed from the clot within 8 hours of collection.
