For unknown, unspecified or transgender patients, both male and female reference ranges will be reported.

Testing is performed using Siemens Atellica SHBG Assay. Patient samples may contain heterophilic antibodies that could react in immunoassays to give falsely elevated or depressed results.  This assay is designed to minimize interference from heterophilic antibodies.

In patients receiving high doses of biotin (>5 mg/day), no sample should be taken within 8 hours of biotin administration.
