Tube Station Specimen CANNOT be sent through Automated Tube System. Must be walked to the laboratory and kept at body temperature during transport.
Specimen Routine: Semen from ejaculate in a sterile, leak-proof plastic container provided by the clinic. See picture for optimal container.
Stability
Received in lab within 1 hour of collection. Motility cannot be assessed if specimen is >1 hour old. Store at 20-37 degrees C. DO NOT REFRIGERATE OR FREEZE
Availability Monday-Friday 7:00am to 10:00am ONLY.
NO Evenings/Nights/Weekends/Holidays
Turnaround Time 2hrs
Reference Range Expected: Azoospermia (Absence of Sperm) or <100,000 Non-motile sperm/mL.

Semen analysis for Fertility Workup should be referred to UNC Fertility in Raleigh.
