  • Optimal specimens: bronchoalveolar lavage or washing, mini-BAL
  • Acceptable Specimen:  Induced Sputum.
  • UNACCEPTABLE specimens: Expectorated sputum, tracheal aspirates.  These specimen types will NOT work for this test.  If sent incorrectly identified as an "induced sputum," the test will likely NOT be interpretable and will be cancelled.
