- ONLY for SYMPTOMATIC patients. Testing asymptomatic (even if exposed) patients is not indicated and may lead to inaccurate results.
- Send oropharyngeal (OP) swab or nasopharyngeal (NP) swab within 3 days of rash onset, but no later than 10 days. For patients 3-10 days from rash onset, consider sending a combined NP/OP collection. Serum IgM testing should also be sent >3 days after rash onset. Measles (Rubeola) Antibody IgM
- Oropharyngeal swabs are collected using the Red-Capped Double Swab (Infor # 053686). Affiliate laboratories should place the red-capped swab in Universal Transport Media prior to submitting to UNCMC.
