  • HTLV-I/II IgG antibodies are detected using ELISA with purified HTLV‐I viral lysate, a purified HTLV‐II viral lysate, and a recombinant HTLV‐I p21E antigen.
  • Samples that test negative are reported as negative. Initially reactive samples are retested in duplicate to confirm initial test results. If either or both repeat tests are reactive the sample is reported as reactive.  Samples that are initially reactive are sent to a Reference Lab for HTLV I/II western blot testing.  (Ann. Intern. Med. 118(6):448‐454, 1993).
