Methodology: Stool specimen is applied to guaiac-resin treated filter paper followed by a developer containing hydrogen peroxide. The heme portion of hemoglobin, when present in the stool specimen, will catalyze the oxidation of alpha guaiaconic acid through peroxidase activity and develop a blue quinone dye compound. 

Sensitivity: ≥0.3 mg hemoglobin/gram of feces
