Methodology: Gastric specimen is applied to guaic-resin treated filter paper followed by buffered hydrogen peroxide developer. Alpha guaiaconic acid reaction with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of any heme groups will produce a blue quinone dye compound indicating the presence of blood/hemoglobin in the gastric specimen.
Sensitivity: ≥50 µg hemoglobin/mL gastric fluid
