Note: Storage at 2-8°C must be maintained from the time immediately after collection in the sampling bottle until time testing is performed. Failure to maintain 2-8°C reduces stability to 15 days.

Comments

Inpatient and UNC Hospital-site clinics call Core Laboratory (984-974-2361) during dayshift hours (7:30a-4pm) to obtain collection kit and instructions, for OCPUIO-UNC. 

Outpatient clinics and Affiliates call Outreach Laboratory (984-974-1810) or email the supply request account to obtain collection kits and instructions, OCPUIO-UNC. 

Inpatient specimens collected in sterile specimen cups MUST be placed in special collection kit medium within 4 hours of receipt in laboratory.

Methodology: The detection of hemoglobin occurs through an optical density measurement of a latex agglutination reaction using polystyrene latex particles that are sensitized with anti-human HbAo antibodies.

Analytical Sensitivity: 100 ng hHb/mL of feces
