Comments
  • Specimens for CMV IgM testing are assayed with a qualitative, chemiluminescent immunoassay (CMLI) for the determination of IgM CMV antibodies in human serum. This indirect CMLI includes a step to reduce interference from IgG antibodies and rheumatoid factor.
  • The test is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of acute CMV infection.  However, it is not always possible to distinguish primary infection from reactivation due to the potential for IgM to be produced during reactivation.
  • Results are expressed as Negative, Positive or Equivocal.  Repeat testing on a newly collected sample should take place if an equivocal result is obtained.
