Specimen Stability: 7 days at room temperature or 24 hours refrigerated.

Only Dermatophyte species of fungus are reported; for skin specimens where other fungi are of clinical concern, collect a punch biopsy and order test Culture, Fungus, Pathogen (LAB240).
To rule out infection in these sites due to Candida spp., order Yeast Screen (LAB241).

Species level identification for Dermatophytes performed only for appropriate clinical circumstances.
