Stability: Refrigerated (2-8° C):
7 days
Frozen: 1 month
Availability Routine: Specimens are tested within 7 days of receipt.
Turnaround Time 7 Days
Reference Range Normal:

CSF IgG ≤7.0 mg/dL
CSF Albumin 7.1-35.7 mg/dL
CSF IgG Index 0.3-0.8
CSF Oligoclonal Bands Negative: No bands unique to CSF observed
Albumin, serum 3.4-5.0 g/dL
Age IgG, mg/dL
IgG, serum 0-<1 year* 136-890 mg/dL
1-<4 years* 443-1243 mg/dL
4-<10 years* 566-1359 mg/dL
10-<19 years* 684-1581 mg/dL
19 yrs + 650-1600 mg/dL

* Pediatric reference ranges from Caliper study (Advia) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30550936/  (1-4 yr range adjusted).

Ratio Interpretation: Normal-The CSF Albumin/Serum Albumin Ratio indicates normal permeability of the blood brain barrier and the IgG index does not suggest increased intrathecal IgG synthesis.

Interpretation is provided on patient report; call (984)974-2361 with questions

Comments
  • Centrifuge, separate, and refrigerate serum sample within 4 hours of collection.
  • A paired serum sample is required. Both samples should be collected at the same time; samples collected >24 hrs apart may be rejected. Transport samples to the laboratory together.
  • Methodology: Isoelectric Focusing
This test is used to identify oligoclonal bands in the CSF of patients with neurological symptoms (such as multiple sclerosis).
  • Not to be used to detect CSF leakage (Beta-2 Transferrin, Fluid).
