  • Collect 12 mL whole blood in 2 x 6 mL sodium heparin tubes. Tubes must be at least 3/4 full to maintain proper ratio of blood to anticoagulant
  • For difficult draws, collect 6 mL whole blood in 2x 3mL sodium heparin tubes. Tubes must be at least 3/4 full to maintain proper ratio of blood to anticoagulant
  • Must be collected Monday-Friday between 8am-2pm and received in UNC Hospitals Core Laboratory by 3pm. Due to limited stability, samples collected outside the Medical Center need to be received in the UNC Hospitals Core Laboratory by 3pm on the day of collection for prompt send-out
  • Keep sample at room temperature
