LIAISON PLEX BCP cross-reactive species
The LIAISON PLEX Gram-positive Blood Culture (BCP) Assay can cross-react with several organisms, typically closely related or near-neighbor species to those detected by the panel. Confirmed or predicted cross-reactive species include:
- Streptococcus mitis/oralis may be detected as Streptococcus pneumoniae
- Enterococcus avium may be detected as Enterococcus faecium
- Leuconostoc carnosum, Aggregatibacter aphrophilus, Proteus penneri, and Proteus vulgaris may be detected as Streptococcus spp.
- Staphylococcus muscae may be detected as Listeria spp.
- Staphylococcus argenteus may be detected as Staphylococcus aureus
- Detection of mecA/mecC, vanA or vanB gene(s) in a specimen does not confirm that the resistance marker is associated with the organism(s) detected. Sub-culturing and subsequent testing of the isolated organism are necessary to definitively link antimicrobial resistance with a specific organism.
