LIAISON PLEX BCN limitations and cross-reactive species

  • Detection of the Enterobacteriaceae/Morganellaceae family target alone in the absence of a genus or species indicates that the assay detected the gene target for Enterobacteriaceae/Morganellaceae, but the genus or species could not be differentiated. Additional testing is necessary for species -level identification. 
  • Detection of resistance gene(s) in a specimen does not confirm that the resistance marker is associated with the organism(s) detected. Sub-culturing and subsequent testing of the isolated organism are necessary to definitively link antimicrobial resistance with a specific organism.
  • Reports with multiple organisms detected should be interpreted with caution. Refer to culture for definitive results.  
  • The LIAISON PLEX Gram-negative Blood Culture (BCN) Assay can cross-react with several organisms, typically closely related or near-neighbor species to those detected by the panel. Confirmed or predicted cross-reactive species are included in the table below.
