Brain-Type Natriuretic Peptide

Synonyms: BNP

Effective 09/9/2024, UNC Medical Center, Hillsborough Hospital, and Eastowne laboratories will
transition back to NT-proBNP away from BNP. This comes after a 3-year temporary switch to BNP
while our diagnostics manufacturer sought FDA approval of their NT-proBNP assay. All order sets
containing BNP orders have automatically been updated in EPIC to NT-proBNP. BNP and NT-proBNP
values are not interchangeable. A reference range of <300 for NT-proBNP strongly rules out the
presence of acute heart failure.
