Comment
  • Specimens submitted for detection of IgM antibody to HBV Core Antigen (IgM anti-HBc) are tested using a chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA). This assay provides qualitative detection of IgM antibodies against HBV core antigen in human serum using the automated Abbott Alinity-i system.
  • It is intended for use in the diagnosis of acute/recent HBV infection.
  • Results are reported as nonreactive, reactive or grayzone.
  • Additional specimens collected at weekly intervals are recommended for initially grayzone specimens. Testing these specimens may help to differentiate early acute infection associated with rapidly rising IgM from late acute infection associated with declining or unchanging IgM levels.
