Services and Amenities

At UNC Medical Center, we strive to provide our patients and visitors with a positive and comfortable experience. Not only will you receive excellent care, but you will have access to a number of services and amenities designed to enhance your stay. These amenities include communication devices (telephone, televisions, newspapers), dining/meal service and recreation/play areas.

We also offer a network of pharmacies designed to meet your needs during and after your hospital stay.

Carolina Care at Home Convenience Center

Carolina Care at Home Convenience Center coordinates the support and supplies you need for home care, allowing you to focus on your recovery not shopping. These include:

  • Home care supplies
  • Pharmacy Services (over-the-counter and prescription medications, coordination of discharge)
  • Home medical equipment (purchase and rental)
  • Home care and hospice services

Located in the UNC Hospitals lobby, adjacent to the N.C. Women's Hospital and the N.C. Cancer Hospital. Open Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Banking and ATMs

For your convenience, various ATMs are located throughout the hospital.

Cash Points/State Employees Credit Union (SECU)

  • N.C. Memorial Hospital: Main lobby, near elevators
  • N.C. Women’s Hospital: Main lobby, near the escalator
  • Ambulatory Care Center: First Floor
  • N.C. Neurosciences Hospital: Cafeteria

Suntrust

  • N.C. Memorial Hospital: Main lobby, near elevators

Bank of America

  • N.C. Memorial Hospital: Ground floor, near the Corner Cafe

Wells Fargo

  • N.C. Memorial Hospital: Main lobby, opposite the registration desk

Hospital Safe

You may wish to store your valuables, such as money or jewelry, in the hospital safe to ensure their safety during your visit.

Valuables may be deposited at the Cashier’s Office, located in the Main Hospital lobby, between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Deposits may be made through the Admitting Office between 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. Your valuables will be securely stored overnight and transported to the Cashier’s Office in the morning.

If you are unable to make the deposit yourself, notify your nurse.

Information Desks

Information desks are located throughout the hospital to answer your questions or provide visitor passes.

Information desks are located in the ground floor lobbies of the N.C. Cancer Hospital, N.C. Children’s Hospital, N.C. Memorial Hospital, and N.C. Women’s Hospital.

The information desks at the N.C. Memorial Hospital and the N.C. Cancer Hospital are closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

Interpreters

Interpreters are available for patients with limited English proficiency and for those who are hearing-impaired.

If you would need an interpreter, please notify staff.

Lost and Found

If you accidentally misplace any personal items during your stay, please check the nurses station closest to your room first.

If items have not been returned to the nurses station, you may check Lost and Found located in Memorial Hospital or call 984-974-1241.

Mail Delivery

If you would like to receive mail during your stay, you may do so at the following address:

Mail will be delivered to your room daily for the duration of your stay.

Once you are discharged, all mail received will be forwarded to your home address.

For those wishing to send mail, a mailbox is located outside of the N.C. Memorial Hospital (across from the Dental School). Stamps can be purchased from the Cranberry Corner gift shop in the lobby of the N.C. Memorial Hospital.

Visitor Restrictions

To ensure the safety of our patients, visitor restrictions for children under 12 (age 11 years old and younger) will go into effect Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, for the Newborn Critical Care Center (NCCC), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMTU) at UNC Hospitals.
