About Lymphedema

Lymphedema is the swelling and soft tissue changes that occur in the area of the body where an injury has occurred to the lymphatic system.  If the lymph vessels are unable to transport lymph fluid, it begins to accumulate in the tissues, causing swelling. This build-up of lymph fluid in the skin is known as lymphedema. Once this condition occurs, the swelling may increase if it is not treated. Lymphedema is a chronic, progressive condition that requires lifetime management, but fortunately there is treatment.

We offer a free lymphedema information class at Carolina Pointe II from 1-2 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month.
