Retirement Plans

Eligible employees are required to make an election within 30 days of their hire date. This is the only opportunity employees will have to enroll in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). This election is irrevocable, permanent and binding. This opportunity will not be presented again. If you make no election, you will automatically default to the Teachers and State Employees Retirement Plan (TSERS).

    We have several programs available to our employees. Please note that as a full time State employee, you will be eligible to use the State Tuition Waiver form immediately upon hire. After your probationary period ends, employees scheduled to work 20 hours or more enrolled in a degree program related to any position at UNC Health Care can use the Academic Reimbursement Program.
